Casa Velha do Palheiro is a Relais & Châteaux country house hotel, set within the award-winning Palheiro Gardens in the foothills of Funchal, which combines history, beauty and elegance.

Dating back to the early 19th century, this exclusive 5-star charm hotel originally served as a hunting lodge for a prominent count.

The hotel is situated in a picturesque, quiet spot in the hills 7 km from Funchal center, between the famous Palheiro garden (free access for hotel guests) and the Palheiro Golf Course.

There is a free shuttle service to the center. Definitely recommended for lovers of luxury, personal service, tranquility, authenticity and gastronomy.

Facilities: heated swimming pool (with bar), sun terraces, tennis court, sauna, steam bath, massage, lounge, cozy bar, room service, billiards room.

In addition to the hotel restaurant, you can also choose the Palheiro Golf clubhouse (approx. 500 m) for a delicious meal.

You stay on the basis of Bed and Breakfast. Half Pension can be booked and highly recommended (gastronomic quality!).

There are 37 rooms and these have 5-star class, are spacious and have a spacious bathroom with hairdryer, radio, TV, telephone and (optional) safe. The standard rooms are already great, but the suites and the deluxe rooms will probably appeal to you even more.

Palheiro Golf

Designed by the outstanding golf architecht Cabbel B Robinson in 1993, this is another must play course. As in most places on this island, you’ll feel like you are in paradise here. This is a 200 year old estate converted to golf course and full of natural beauty and natural obstacles.

The valleys and ridges of Madieras rugged terrain add to the excitement of the course. From the tee off to the very end, you need to be focused. You must be precise if you want to win the round here. Along with the hazards, you have the fragrances of the beautiful exotic flowers and the happily chirping birds that tug at your concentration all the way around.

The clubhouse and the spectacular views are just where you want to be after your game. You´ll feel you could sit on the terrace sipping your drink for an eternity. Don´t stop there however. Order a divine meal at the restaurant. Fresh traditional delicious Madieran cuisine is what is waiting for you here.
