Sicily Sicily is located in the central Mediterranean. It extends from the tip of the Apennine peninsula from which only the narrow Strait of Messina, towards the North African coast, separates it. Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, which is at 3,320m the tallest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world.

Sicily as a holiday destination
Be prepared to be overwhelmed by Sicily’s contrasts, landscapes, beaches and amazingly diverse, ancient heritage. From its bubbling capital Palermo to age-old Roman and Greek ruins, sun-drenched sands and the ever-present, smoldering Mount Etna, this is one island overflowing with treasures.

Sicilian climate
Sicily is situated in the southern Mediterranean, no more than 100miles from the North African coast, so has the benefit of sunshine for much of the year. Even the winter months are mild in the coastal resorts with daytime temperatures in the low 60s, or 15-16°C.

Sicilian coastline
Following a thousand kilometers of coastline, Sicily's varied shoreline offers sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, nature reserves, views of the Aeolian Islands, and the chance to spot flamingos and turtles. It has a vaguely triangular shape and is surrounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the north and the Ionic Sea on the east.

Sicilian culture
Venus, The Goddess of Love was born in Sicily. It has a rich and unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine, architecture and language. Sicily also holds importance for archeological and ancient sites such as the Necropolis of Pantalica, the Valley of the Temples and Selinunte.

Sicilian gastronomy
Holidays in Sicily are about enjoying the island's passion for food and drink too. From east to west and from north to south, the gastronomy of this southern Italian island is a triumph of flavours and traditional recipes.

Golf in Sicily

I Monasteri - Siracusa Golf

This interesting course was designed by the Italian golf architects David Mezzacane and Vincenzo Mazzacane in 2010. It features long fairways which seem to naturally divide orange groves from lemon groves and olive groves from almond groves and thereby transmitting a feeling of being united with nature. This was the architect’s goal.

The course was designed to be challenging but entertaining at the same time. This was achieved not only technically with the hazards like the 4 lakes that are interconnected by a stream and the natural prickly pear areas where you will defiantly choose to abandon your ball but also with the historical ruins and the views of the sea from all over the course.

Both the resort and the clubhouse are pleasantly located at the end of the front nine making the views of the course from the bar of the clubhouse perfect for you relaxation after the game. The moderate weather in this part of Sicily is also an advantage as the course can be played all year not to forget the sauna and the outdoor pool that are at your disposal.
