Lazio Lazio lies along the Tirrenian coast in Central Italy; it was heart of the Roman Empire, the Papal State and Italy. This is the cradle of occidental civilization and Christian culture, of lakes and legends, of spas and history, of ancient roads and verdant hills.

Lazio as a holiday destination
Lazio is known by tourists as the region of Rome, but Lazio has other attractions, including the Castelli Romani, Rieti, where you can visit St. Francis' tiny monasteries, Frescati, drink some refreshing wine and escape the heat of Rome in summer, and evocative Etruscan ruins, not to mentions spas and beaches. You could spend a month in Lazio and not see it all.

The Lazio climate
Lazio has Mediterranean climate. The hottest months are June to August where temperatures reach 30 degrees, but it is actually pleasant to stay in Lazio from May to October in terms of temperatures.

Lazio’s coastline
With so much of the Lazio coastline made up of beaches, there are some really interesting and unusual ones to visit. Sperlonga offers calm seas for swimming and a Greek island feel while Santa Marinella is a smaller, sandy beach with some nice restaurants to relax at after a day in the sun.

Lazio’s culture
Like most areas that were once part of the Papal State, Lazio was traditionally poor. Aside from tourism Lazio derives is wealth from agriculture pursuits such as vegetable farming and wine making as well as key industries such as machinery manufacturing, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and publishing.

Lazio gastronomy
The cuisine in Lazio originates from its peasant roots and nothing is wasted. Lamb is considered the meat of the region and the artichoke is grown all over the region. Lazio is also home to the production of ricotta and pecorino romano cheese. Spaghetti is a favorite of the region and is served with hearty sauces with plenty of garlic.

Golf in Lazio
When you look at the territory, it seems that Lazio is made up of various landscapes: its northern zones have mountains like the Marche, while other areas are full of lush vegetation with green forests and extended of olive groves that bring to mind Umbria. The coastal parts benefit from the sea and have mild Winters and fresh Summers. In the inner parts of Lazio the Winter is cold and the Summer warm summer.

Here you will be playing golf on beautiful courses that still show traces of the Etruscan civilisation. You will come across some technically demanding courses with many natural hazards in such a beautiful country and despite your level you will have a fabulous and demanding game.

Golf club Parco de Medici

The complex is 10 minutes by car from the international airport in Fiumincino and is located between the motorway and the river Tiber, within the great ring road “GRA” which surrounds Rome. With an area of roughly 100 hectares we find the touristic recreational compound called “Parco de’ Medici” which stands out for its 27-hole golf course with a welcoming Club House. But let’s cross the motorway again and lets follow the route of Viale Salvatore Rebecchini to arrive at the entrance of the Golf Club. This golf complex was build in 1990 by recovering a completely arid and flat area ideal to accommodate what was then foreseen to become a great seaplane port for Rome, a project never accomplished and later definitely abandoned.

The recovery of this piece of land is doubtless the most important ecological environmental transformation carried out in Rome after the war. More than one million cubic metres of soil were moved, lakes created and mounts of earth were accumulated in numerous points with the aim of giving movement to the fairways and thousands of plants were planted. Including the ruins of an ancient artefact from 1st century BC, a small river landing by the Tiber which flew right behind this building during that period.

In fact, the Tiber was the most important route for provisions for the city of Rome. The first port structures were build directly at the river estuary which were later transformed into two ports during the 1st and 2nd century AD: the bigger one called “of Claudius” (which is now completely covered by earth and used for the runways of Fiumicino airport) and the smaller, more architectural one in hexagonal shape called “of Traiano” is still quite visible nowadays.
