Bavaria Bavaria (German: Bayern) is a State (Bundesland) of Germany. The territory of this state is the largest of the 16 German states. The state capital is Munich with 1.3 million people. About 12.5 million people live in Bavaria. Like many German states, Bavaria was once independent. Ludwig II of Bavaria was its last independent king.

Bavaria has seven parts: Oberbayern (Upper Bavaria), Niederbayern (Lower Bavaria), Schwaben (Swabia), Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), Unterfranken (Lower Franconia), Oberfranken (Upper Franconia) and Oberpfalz (Upper Palatinate). Bavaria has 71 districts and 25 free cities.

The highest point is the Zugspitze, which is also the highest mountain in Germany. Munich is the largest city, the second biggest city is Nuremberg (Nürnberg), which is famous for its gingerbread, a kind of Christmas bread that is often shaped like a Christmas tree, a snowman or Santa Claus.

Pope Benedict XVI was born in Bavaria.

Brunnwies Golf Course

This is because the championship venue is somewhat of a “Best of Bad Griesbach” and has everything that makes up a good golf resort: lovely views, beautiful scenery, holes that have been harmoniously integrated into the hilly countryside, a versatile, sporty design suitable for players of all skill levels that is well maintained, as well as a comfortable country-style meeting place on the estate where players can enjoy their après-golf.

This unique combination makes Brunnwies a favourite course at the golf resort for leisure-time golfers and prompted the English golf magazine “Golf World” to label it one Europe’s Top 20 golf courses. Its sporty features include extensive rough, strategically placed water hazards and contoured, hand-mowed greens with demanding putting that allow for tough flag positions.

The visual appeal of the par 72 course is largely due to the landscape structure. The 18 holes wind in an almost natural way through the gentle hills of the Rottal and offer beautiful views of the
surrounding landscape, which is often referred to as the “Bavarian Tuscany”.

There are only two places with drawn-out slopes, both of which offer lovely views at their highest point as well as particularly interesting holes that allow for long downhill tee-offs. Following the long uphill to the fifth and nearby sixth green on the plateau, the play continues steeply downhill from the seventh tee.

Power hitters who can drive the ball across the adjacent field on the right have the chance to reach the elevated green of this very interesting par 5 hole in two strokes.

The high-lying 14th tee is also quite spectacular: the green, which is protected by two bunkers and a pond, is located 50 metres deeper, making the right choice of club critical for this 155 metre par 3. As you’d expect from a good golf course, the finale, too, is demanding and memorable: a downhill dogleg which power hitters can significantly shorten with a perfect drive to get the ball almost right onto the green if they manage to overcome the trees and an out of bounds line.
