South Coast - Cork Cork offers so much for the traveller. The pretty coastline, with its long and eventful history is matched by the quiet and beautiful central area. Whatever you're after, a holiday in Cork is the perfect place for a short break or longer holiday.

Co. Cork as a holiday destination
Cork is the largest of the Irish counties covering a considerable part of the south west of the country. It has a long coastline to explore and, inland there's beautiful countryside and pretty villages to experience. Cork City is Irelands third largest and just a few years ago was named European Capital of Culture so you can be sure that no matter where you base your holiday, there will be loads to see and do.

The Cork climate
The climate of Cork, like the rest of Ireland, is mild and changeable with abundant rainfall and a lack of temperature extremes. Cork lies in plant hardiness zone. Met Éireann maintains a climatological weather station at Cork Airport, a few kilometres south of the city. It should be noted that the airport is at an altitude of 151 metres and temperatures can often differ by a few degrees between the airport and the city itself.

The Co. Cork coastline
Cork has a mountainous and flat landscape with many beaches and sea cliffs along its coast. The southwest of Ireland is known for its peninsulas and some in Cork include the Beara Peninsula, Sheep's Head, Mizen Head and Brow Head.

Cork culture
The Celtic love of arts and song is alive in modern Ireland, where a taste for theatre, music, literature and history are key to their national identity. So rekindle your connection with a sampling of the legendary nightlife.

Cork gastronomy
Cork is Ireland’s flagship food region, with a gourmet reputation among the finest in Europe. Whether you are eating a simple bar food lunch, or a formal five course dinner, you will find the food in Cork fresh, wholesome and flavoursome, and served in pleasant surroundings with flair and generosity.

Golf in Co.Cork
This part of Ireland is also home to a peerless collection of golf courses. Tiger Woods has been known to practice here before The Open. The Old Head of Kinsale is a spectacular course sitting on its own promontory that juts into the Atlantic. No visit to this part of Ireland is complete without playing the world-famous Old Course at Ballybunion. It is one of the jewels of Irish links golf, it remains an unforgettable experience.

Fota Island - The Deerpark

Fota Island Golf Club is just a few minutes drive from Cork City's international airport and passenger ferry terminal. It is located in the heart of a 780acre estate, which is included in The Inventory of Outstanding Landscapes in Ireland.

The splendid woodlands are woven into three challenging championship courses which are very much in the traditional mode, featuring strategically placed bunkers and undulating putting surfaces.

The Deerpark Course at Fota Island Golf Club with its receptive greens and strategic bunkering impresses even the most experienced professionals. The Deerpark was proud to host the Irish Open in 2001, 2002 and 2014.
