Pas de Calais Pas de Calais is the entrance from Britain to continental Europe with ferries and the Eurotunnel connecting Calais to the White Cliffs of Dover. The Notre Dame Cathedral of Saint-Omer and the beautiful cites of Bethune, Lille and Calais are just some of the things waiting to be explored on your visit to the region.

Pas de Calais as a holiday destination
Best known for beautiful Flemish cities with noble houses, magnificent city halls and churches, the history of the once flourishing coal industry that ended at the beginning of the 20th century can be seen everywhere in the riches of the area. The main battle lines of World War I were drawn here so War Memorials, battlefields and cemeteries can be visited throughout the region.

Pas de Calais climate
The North Atlantic Drift is responsible for a mild climate in Pas de Calais. You do have some rainy days but summers are generally warm and sunny. The temperature seldom goes under 5º in the winter and summer highs are between 20º and 25º.

Pas de Calais coastline
The coastline of the Opal Coast consists of 120 km of sandy beaches, fantastic beach resorts and amazing scenery. The small Provencal villages are full of history and beautiful Norman architecture. Calais is the crossing point for ferries, hovercrafts and of course the Eurotunnel if you want to go to Dover. The views of the white cliffs of Dover and English coastline from here are spectacular.

Pas de Calais culture
Calais is known as “The Most English Town in France”. The area actually belonged to the English Crown from the 14th to the 16th century but the reason for being called English is its proximity to England resulting in many day trippers crossing the English Channel to see the sights of North-western France. The area has beautiful old coastal villages and a lot of old Norman architecture can be seen.

Pas de Calais gastronomy
There is a wide range of fine dining to be found in this region due to large number of people that pass through it. Cheeses however are the specialty of the area. Not to be missed is the selection of different Pas de Calais beers brewed here that vary from village to village. There is also a Pas de Calais wine that is not very well known but should be sampled.

Golf in Pas de Calais
Pas de Calais has many superb golf Courses to choose from. It is a very popular golf destination and ideal for groups because of its location and easy access with the Eurotunnel connecting it to Great Britain. As well as giving the golfer a pleasurable day on any of the fantastic golf course, the area has and continues to provide the scenario for many successful business deals.

Le Touquet Golf Club - le Foret

This predominantly tree lined, parkland course delivers an interesting test of skills to golfers of all abilities. Ranked among the top 40 courses in France by the website 100topgolfcourse.co.uk, the gentle contours and sheltered position of this course offer peace and tranquillity as well as the opportunity to relax and take pleasure in your game.

Wide fairways lined with well established pine and birch trees protect a well placed drive from the Atlantic winds that push across the coastal region, however the smaller greens make for difficult targets ensuring that this is no walk in the park.

The par 4, 13th is a serious test measuring 421 metres, and with the ongoing program of modification and course maintenance, which has recently included new greens for the 11th and 14th holes, makes this course anything but predictable.

The relaxed friendly atmosphere of the clubhouse extends throughout the town of Le Touquet, making it an excellent golfing destination with Le Foret complimented by its close association and proximity to the highly regarded 18 hole La Mer and 9 hole Le Manoir courses.
